Proper Food Safety for Salmon
Food safety is extremely important to Marine Harvest Canada. Marine Harvest Canada's salmon benefit from growing in the cold, clean waters of the north Pacific. We work hard to make sure these waters stay clean to ensure that the product we provide to our customers is safe and healthy. Through a variety of testing protocols from the hatchery to the customer, our products are inspected for therapeutic residues, pathogens and naturally occurring environmental contaminants such as dioxins, PCBs and heavy metals.
We are proud of the fact that our proper food safety testing protocols far exceed any regulatory requirements and that all residue tests have shown to be below levels specified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Health Canada, and country of export.
CFIA audits each plant annually to ensure compliance with the Quality Management Plan for Fish and Seafood. Certificates of registration are approved on an annual basis to those plants that are in regulatory compliance, and export licences for the U.S. and Europe are in place.
Marine Harvest Canada also performs internal audits throughout the year to validate the compliance of our facilities to our own standard including ISO 14001. Marine Harvest Canada continues to maintain excellence in proper food safety management.
