Manager, Glacial Creek - Brood Facility

We are seeking applications for the challenging position of Manager of our Glacial Creek brood facility. Maintaining a healthy brood stock is critical to the future success of our farming operations. Reporting to the Brood Program Manager, the Manager of Glacial Creek will be responsible for ensuring the consistent and efficient production of excellent quality salmon eggs at a low cost while maintaining a safe and environmentally sustainable work environment at the Glacial Creek facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing daily operations at the Glacial Creek facility;
  • Administering brood rearing plan for the Glacial Creek site;
  • Developing goals and targets and delivering results on plan and on budget;
  • Delivering solutions and solving operational problems as they arise;
  • Meeting or exceeding customer expectations in size, number, quality and timing of eggs;
  • Effectively managing, developing and coaching employees;
  • Initiating and developing solutions for lowering costs and improving product quality;
  • Handling other administrative responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive training/experience in fish husbandry
  • Experience in managing complex and rapidly changing operations &/or situations;
  • Demonstrated skills & experience in providing leadership & personnel management;
  • Familiarity with financial planning & management;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Basic computer skills (e.g. word processing & spreadsheets);
  • Highly motivated, positive outlook;

Saltwater Director

Marine Harvest Canada produces 40,000 MT of whole salmon per year for clients in Canada, the USA and Asia. Over the next five years we are planning to substantially increase our production and an ambitious investment program to obtain our future goals will start in 2015. Our operations now require an experienced professional to lead our salt water department.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for all functions in salt water production. This is a key role on the Senior Management Team and you will be counted on to be a proactive, team-focused leader, capable of developing and maintaining effective working relationships, and supporting the continuous improvement of our salt water operations as we move into an exciting new growth phase in the organization.

Responsibilities and areas of focus will include:

  • Overseeing daily salt water production, leading the production group consisting of Area Managers, and Managers for feed, planning and technical projects
  • Short, mid and long term planning of salt water production
  • Continue production improvement program with focus on growth, survival, fish health and welfare, and quality
  • Production efficiency and cost control
  • Develop and manage new investment projects in the salt water area
  • Employee safety and development

The ideal candidate will possess a relevant combination of education and industry experience. Strong organizational abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills are also required. Above all, a passion for excellence and a self-motivated, positive, solution-oriented attitude is an absolute must.

Warehouse Technician Englewood Service Centre

We are currently recruiting for a North Island resident (Port Hardy/Port McNeill) with demonstrated safe work habits and a positive "can-do" attitude for the position of Warehouse Technician for our Englewood Service Centre reporting to the Yard Supervisor. Responsibilities include:

  • Packing and preparing shipments
  • Completing appropriate shipping documentation
  • Handling materials in accordance with WHMIS and Transportation of Hazardous Goods
  • Physically and electronically receiving goods
  • Identifying and labeling items as required
  • Maintaining organized storage areas

The successful candidate for this position will have one to two years experience in a warehousing or shipping/receiving type role and a valid driver’s license. Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel and Outlook), an organized approach to work and the ability to work with minimal supervision are all key requirements of this position. Forklift certification would be an asset.

Health & Safety Advisor

We are seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to work out of our Campbell River Office. In this role you will work with our Health & Safety Department to support all aspects of the organization in the delivery of a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety program. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Experience with and good knowledge of all facets of Occupational Health and Safety administration, including soft tissue injury prevention and management, WCB claims management, employee training, lockout, confined space, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of industrial health, safety, fire and emergency regulations and requirements as they relate to marine environments and/or manufacturing/processing industries.
  • Excellent communication abilities and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively liaise with regulatory officials.
  • Strong presentation skills coupled with the ability to train staff and orient new employees to their role in safety.
  • A minimum of five years experience in saltwater operations and/or a processing environment supplemented with a strong safety focus and additional safety education will be preferable.
  • Flexibility for traveling extensively to our operational sites.
  • Good working experience with Microsoft office skills
  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.

Feed Manager

Marine Harvest Canada produces 40,000 MT of whole salmon per year for clients in Canada, the USA and Asia. As our current feed manager is taking on a new position in the company, we are seeking for a new feed manager for MH Canada.

Feed is the most expensive and a very important input factor to our production and the vacant position will play an important role in continuously improvements and specific projects that in turn will lead to better biological results of the company. Reporting to the salt water production director, you will be responsible for following up different topics regarding feed and feeding for the sea sites and also be the main contact person for the feed companies.

Responsibilities and areas of focus will include:

  • Follow-up the marine farms regarding feeding regimes, feed monitoring, use of feeding systems, diets, feed quality, flesh quality etc.
  • Main contact for the feed companies regarding diet composition and raw materials, feed quality and claims, product innovation, research, analysis etc.
  • Biological data analysis and feeding reports
  • Project management of feed related project
  • Provide training for staff within biology and fish nutrition.

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • BSc in biology or related field (i.e. animal nutrition), master degree preferred
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, including the ability to conduct training and education programs in a group and individual setting
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently
  • Strong computer skills, in particular with MS Office applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Candidates with relevant work experience may be considered.

Though based in Campbell River, the incumbent will be expected to travel to and periodically overnight at farm sites
