Maintenance Manager - Port Hardy Processing Plant - Internal/External

Marine Harvest Canada is currently seeking an individual to join our team as the Maintenance Manager at our Port Hardy Processing Plant, on beautiful Northern Vancouver Island. This facility is the most technically advanced fresh salmon processor in British Columbia. Reporting to the Director of Processing, the incumbent will coordinate and manage the maintenance of the production and building facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct and lead staff in the everyday scheduling, preventative maintenance and repair of all production equipment.
  • Manage, direct and schedule the maintenance personnel to achieve maximum improvement of maintenance functions.
  • Liaise with government agencies as required.
  • Source and order all parts and maintain spare parts inventory, in line with company procedures.
  • Manage departmental budget.
  • Initiate training within department as required.
  • Ensure the safety and training of maintenance staff and of outside contractors working on site as per Marine Harvest Canada policy and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • "Red Seal" certified in a relevant trade
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years maintenance management/supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of PLC's.
  • Ability to develop and manage a preventative maintenance program.
  • Familiarity with automated process/packaging technology would be a definite asset.
  • Experience working in a computerized preventative maintenance program, a definite asset.
  • Must be a demonstrated decision-maker who easily interacts with others and is adept at leading and motivating a team.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and e-mail, a definite asset.
  • Flexibility is a must.

Operations Support/Boat Operator Klemtu Area

We are seeking applications from candidates for an Operations Support with our Klemtu Area farming operations. Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be the principal operator and scheduler of this work boat/net washer, working directly with farm site managers and staff in the provision of key support services to area farms for project related activities such as harvesting, grade seining, net washing, You will be responsible for ensuring that these services are provided in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring that all work is carried out in manner that adheres to all government regulations, industry codes and company policies.

To be successful in this role, candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  • Good knowledge and skills in salmon farming operations, including a minimum of 3 years of aquaculture experience;
  • Significant boat operating skills and experience; Masters Limited ticket an asset
  • Good mechanical abilities and experience with boat maintenance;
  • Good communications skills and developed interpersonal abilities (including conflict resolution abilities);
  • Self-motivated, able to work both independently and in a team environment and provide project leadership to others on an as required basis;
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively in a high intensity, physically demanding project-related environment.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a fly-in, camp position (8:6 shift) with 15% base rate premium.

Farm Technicians

We are currently recruiting for Farm Technicians. As a Farm Technician, you will be part of a production team striving to grow the best quality fish in a cost-effective manner.

Your duties will include feeding and all other fish husbandry responsibilities, maintenance, repairs and upgrading of your site and equipment, maintaining health and safety and environmental management procedures and site reporting and records keeping responsibilities.

The successful candidates for these positions will have farming experience/training. You will be self-motivated, well organized, and have a positive attitude. These are 8:6 camp-based positions.

Hatchery Technician

Our Freshwater Operations are currently seeking applications for the position of Hatchery Technician. Duties include a variety of production tasks such as feeding and caring for salmon fry, grading by size, disease screening, cleaning and maintaining tanks and related equipment, conducting flow measurements and water quality checks, assisting with fish health sampling, vaccination and record keeping.

Successful candidates will have freshwater finfish aquaculture experience or related knowledge included, experience and/or education.
